2018 Fellowship Application Form

Complete all components of this application (including a Project Description and a curriculum vitae as attachments) and submit them via the “Submit” button below. This application package and two supporting letters of recommendation must be received by 1 December 2017. The two letters of recommendation must be signed and submitted independently by referees (in PDF or MS Word format) via the BSA Fellowship recommendation submission form. No other documentation will be considered by the committee. The Society will announce the award winners at its annual meeting on Friday, 26 January 2018; it will notify all applicants of its decision via e-mail by 15 February 2018. Fellowships will be tenable after 15 May 2018.

    All of the BSA Short-Term Fellowships share a common application; submission of a single Short-Term Fellowship application will allow the applicant to be considered for the BSA-Harry Ransom Center Pforzheimer Fellowship in Bibliography, the BSA-Pine Tree Foundation Fellowship in Hispanic Bibliography, the BSA-Pine Tree Foundation Fellowship in Culinary Bibliography, the BSA-ASECS Fellowship for Bibliographical Studies in the Eighteenth Century, the Charles J. Tanenbaum Fellowship in Cartographical Bibliography, the BSA-Mercantile Library Fellowship in North American Bibliography, the Katharine Pantzer Fellowship in the British Book Trades, the McCorison Fellowship for the History and Bibliography of Printing in Canada and the United States, the Reese Fellowship for American Bibliography and the History of the Book in the Americas, and the other unnamed BSA fellowships. If you wish to be considered for both a Pantzer Senior Fellowship and a Short-Term Fellowship, you must submit this form twice.
  • Reference Contact Information

    Please list the names and contact information of two persons whom you have asked to submit letters of reference. The letters should be written specifically in support of this application by persons in your field who are competent to judge the significance of the project. Letters submitted electronically as signed PDFs are preferable, although postal submissions will be accepted. When using e-mail, we ask that recommenders use the subject line “Recommendation for [Applicant Name],” that is, “Recommendation for Chris Smith.” Applicants are advised to request recommendation letters well in advance and to direct referees to the Society's website for guidance. It is the applicant’s responsibility to have the letters of reference in the Society’s hands by 1 December 2017.

    Please attach a concise description (not to exceed 1000 words) as a PDF or Microsoft Word (.docx) document, outlining the purpose, scope, and significance of the project, a detailed plan of work and timetable for completion, and a description of the published form the project will take. (Provide sample entries, if applicable.) Note: The BSA Fellowship Committee evaluates applications on the basis of whether the project makes sense in terms of existing scholarship, whether the applicant is qualified to undertake the proposed project, and whether a BSA stipend would make a significant difference to the completion of the project.
