Policy on Advocacy

The Bibliographical Society of America (BSA) focuses its advocacy on promoting bibliographical research and bibliophilic pursuits to its membership and to the general public. To this end, the BSA provides clear messaging about internal organizational affairs, open-call fellowship and grant opportunities, as well as co-sponsored interorganizational activities and events. Acting under the shared governance structure of the Council, the BSA may issue or co-sign public statements on social and political matters when these matters have a direct impact on bibliographical research and inquiry. A business item calling for such a statement may be brought forward by any Councilor or group of Councilors at any time. The BSA’s membership in the American Council of Learned Societies makes it a de facto participant in large-scale advocacy through this umbrella organization.
