New Membership Benefit: Access to the ACLS Humanities Ebook Platform
The Society is excited to debut a new benefit for members in 2022: access to the ACLS Humanities Ebook Collection at the discounted rate of $25/year. This curated resource features over 5,700 scholarly books from over 125 publishers. These include C. Paul Christianson’s A Directory of London Stationers and Book Artisans, 1300-1500 and all 29 volumes of Sabin’s Bibliotheca Americana. As part of its ongoing work, the Publications Committee is adding more titles relevant to bibliographical scholarship.
This new benefit demonstrates BSA’s commitment to welcoming bibliographers across the professional spectrum, including independent scholars, booksellers, collectors, and precariously employed academics without access to institutionally supported research tools. The Humanities Ebook Collection is a collaboration among the American Council of Learned Societies (of which BSA is a member), Michigan Publishing, and the Fulcrum publishing platform. ACLS and Michigan Publishing have worked together to improve diversity and inclusion for the Humanities Ebook Collection by introducing values-based criteria into collection development, improving the accessibility of the platform, and by experimenting with open access models.
